Dorothy's Kitchen
Pizza! Quite possibly the best pizza in Suva ... and from the most unlikely place.
For years I thought the sign at the front of Dorothy's little shop was either a joke or a reminder of past glory: the place doesn't look like they sell pizza. There's no pizza menu visible when you walk in. It just looks like any other run-of-the-mill Chinese takeout: the small food warmer, the glass case with pre-cooked sausage rolls, the Coke fridge, and the faded, fake brick paint job on the small glass shop front
But Dorothy's is anything but normal. The secret is to ask ... and then you receive!
"So, do you really sell pizza?" I asked on my first tentative foray.
A laminated menu was produced from beneath the counter, boasting a pizza range equal to any of the dedicated pizza shops in town (and with a full Chinese menu on the reverse) ... and the discovery began.
Several trips later, I can happily recommend the Dorothy Special (pictured below), the Sweet Vegetarian and anything with chicken on it. These are good pizza: a good crust (not too thin, but not overwhelmingly thick either), fresh toppings, and held together by real cheese ... cheese that stretches when you try and pull a piece off.
Dorothy's also does a respectable meat pie; and on Saturday's only, sells Chinese steamed buns (chicken or red pork) that are worth a special trip up to Tamavua.
Service is usually fast and efficient, but you may want to phone in your pizza orders. Takeaways are the order of the day: there are only 3 eat-in seats (yes, seats, not tables).
For excellent pizza, friendly service, and a very respectable "made-to-order" menu, Lunch in Suva gives Dorothy's Kitchen a thumbs-up.

I love the pizza @Dorothy's Kitchen. Tasty when eaten hot and not forgetting the funky names given to the pizza's.
hey just a suggestion - maybe you guys could include the eateries' phone numbers too~ After reading about the yummy pizzas in this entry earlier in the day I was tempted to phone in and order some....but the thought of having to look thru the directory for their number made me go hmmm........yes i am THAT lazy =D

Been going to Dorothy's for the almost 2 decades.I usually get some Sausage rolls for morning tea, a must. For lunch, I have the combination short soup, it has everything and It was love at first taste. Really good place for lunch. A real thumb up.
yes I agree with you...they have great Pizzas and Chinese buns are just mouthwatering too. When in Suva we MUST stop for her Chinese Buns...oh try the pizza next time with EXTRA cheese! It's to die for!

i love those pork buns from Dorothys....isa, i remember when i was in boarding school in christchurch, and a friend ( Suva raised Kiwi expat ) and i did the mad mission around central christchurch to try and find pork buns...LMAO
I will always visit Dorothy's place.
Her service is good and she cares about her customers. And yes...best Chinese buns that I've ever had in Fiji, anywhere.
Guaranteed, the Best Pizza in Suva and worth it.
Has anyone tried her christmas Cakes they are to die for too - thats if you dont like too much fruit in your cake! simply the best.

Nice review, I'm glad. The combination shirt soup is wonderful - made the old fashion way and a meal by itself. Also fish and chips very good tho best eaten right away. Sausage rolls just like mum used to get for our birthdays 50 years ago!
